I’m not even going to apologize for being absent, because I needed to be absent. I took about a year and a half off of my business (unofficially)… and dealt with some life. In the last year and a half, I got divorced from an emotionally abusive marriage. A few months ago, I finally moved into my own apartment, living on my own for the first time in my life. It’s been a huge adjustment, but I’m feeling really, really good. Sometimes you have to go through some really hard stuff in order to be yourself and do what you’re meant to do. Or at least that’s been my experience.
I’ve also been doing some “soul searching” as to what I want to really bring into the world. For those of you who know me and have been with me for a while, I’ve been all over the map, but not really – it’s been “all over the map” but in the same city. It’s all connected. I started out as a business coach, then shifted into mindset coaching, then kind of flip flopped back and forth (because honestly in the online business world for a while there, they were very similar)…. and I have, after much thought, decided to move into specializing in teaching and implementing assistance for business owners through content marketing.
I first became interested in content marketing when I took on a job as a content marketer for a larger online company. Basically, I loved it. I loved seeing the big picture of a content plan and how it would help the business grow, and then seeing all of the pieces come together. Spending hours scheduling posts made me really happy (like, for real). I loved writing and editing and the systems. Unfortunately, my role within that company changed 3 times within a couple months and I couldn’t keep up- I was fired. It was pretty devastating (and embarrassed, let’s be honest). I was in the deepest part of my divorce, so maybe it was just not the right time for me to tackle, but this is where my love of content marketing really started.
I went on to become Inbound Marketing Certified by Hubspot thanks to a very amazing client I worked with briefly around the same time, which if you aren’t familiar- is basically the same thing as content marketing, just by a different name. I learned that content marketing is THE way to market today- because nobody’s falling for sleazy sales tactics and manipulation anymore. They want to make educated decisions– and how do they do that? They google stuff. They ask around. Eventually, they go with the company they’ve heard of and trust.
This is great if you’ve been around for a long time and have a huge fanbase! But what if you’re just starting out? That’s where content marketing comes in. You put your stuff out there and grow a following of people who trust you as the expert because they’ve been learning from you the whole time. They’ve learned to go to you when they want to make educated decisions. They LIKE you.
On another note, sales funnels is a huge part of content marketing- but don’t worry if sales funnels scare you… they’re super easy. But that’s another blog post. Content marketing is literally just putting good content that people want to read in front of your ideal audience, then providing them with some juicy way to keep getting more content- like your email list or social media or checking out your website. Content marketing, in a way, IS your sales funnel, because then you’d have them move along that but with massive amounts of quality content and information they’re really excited to have.
Long story short….. content marketing is the way to market today, and getting this one piece in place for your business can make a huuuuuge difference.
